Feedback Cellos

These instrument are relatives of the Halldorophone, designed by Halldor Ulfarrson, Alice Eldridge and Chris Kiefer. More info here: https://www.feedbackcell.info/ingredients/

Half-closed loop

Till Bovermann (2016)

Half-closed loop operates by means of feedback induction on various levels. The performer manipulates a brass pipe containing a resonating string. A separate active sound board serves as the active element which, by momentarily connecting it to the pipe, can be used to temporarily establish a feedback path between the pipe’s string and the soundboard’s transducers. DSP-based filters and dynamic processing elements in the feedback loop help shape the resulting sounds.

Overtone Fiddle

This instrument includes primary and secondary resonating bodies. More info here: https://zenodo.org/record/1178127

Feedback Synth

Two servos are moving a speaker in two axes, relatively to a microphone. In certain positions this setup creates specific feedback pitches. Information about all the pitches is stored together with the coordinates of the speaker. Moving the speaker back to a specific position (by the means of a midi keyboard) allows recalling specific feedback notes.

Feedboxes

Non-Larsen effect feedback setup - two boxes, running simple Pure Data patches, react to the incoming sounds by generating different kind of sounds, yet still they manage to create a sensitive feedback loop.

Macro [feedback]

Macro is an electroacoustic instrument for exploring small objects and their sounds. It is based on four microphones, combined with four drivers, for amplifying these small sounds through close-miking and feedback. A macro lens camera makes the objects and actions visible to the audience, allowing a very small scale performance. More: https://hvc.berlin/performance/macro/

Gutter Synth

The Gutter Synth consists of a number of interacting oscillators, each of which is a feedback system that exhibits it’s own complex behaviour. Combining multiple voices creates emergent effects as the different systems exert a strong influence on each other, tethering their development so that they cluster around certain frequencies, timbres, and behaviours.
